rears its adorable little head, and when the sun comes out and the weather warms up I feel like performing an impromptu musical everywhere I go. Spring makes me want to spend more time outside, but what really gets me excited about the season are the hair and fashion possibilities.
Not only is spring a rebirth for the flowers, it is a rebirth for your style! Gone are the days of ratty hat-hair and icicles on your wet tresses. Take advantage of the sunny weather to try out new sunny hairstyles that will give your look and instant update, even without a trip to the salon.
Wrap a scarf
You may feel like Esmeralda when you wear a scarf on your head, but head scarves are not just for gypsies! Depending what type of scarf you choose, this look can pretty much take you anywhere.
Try a floral-printed silk scarf with a huge knot on one side for a perfectly boho-chic look. When I'm feeling sporty, I like to tie a classic red handkerchief in a bow on the top of my head for a vintage Rosie the Riveter look. You can also, or wear a scarf that matches your outfit as a simple headband. Bonus: scarves are a great way to disguise dirty locks for all my fellow lazy self-stylists!
Flowers aren't just for hippies! If you saw the spring runways, you might have noticed that models strutted their stuff with actual daisies woven into their hair. This might be a little much for real life, but there are some ways to translate it so it works for you.
Pin a single, real flower into your ponytail, bun or updo, or stick one behind your ear. There are also tons of silk flowers on the market, making it easier than ever to pin a flower into your hair without having to worry about it wilting. Pinning a flower onto a headband is another great way to add a little spring to your tresses.
Play tricks with your style
This refreshing change in the weather might make you want to change up your hair. Getting a super-short cut or bold bangs is a fun way to update your look, but what if you don't want to make the commitment?
If your hair is long, you can wear a bob for a day by pinning your locks up in the back, a la Taylor Swift. Basically, pull your hair back into a low bun or chignon of your design, and pull some short (but thick enough to look like a bob) pieces out along the front. Curl them for a romantic spin on the bob.
If your hair is chin-length or shorter, try parting it on the side and slicking it back with gel. This boyish look is totally chic for a night out – pair it with red lips!
